Sascha Dürrleder,
vPOOL Head of Finance & Controlling

True satisfaction at work comes when you connect your daily actions to a bigger purpose.

Sascha is driven by the opportunity to combine strategic thinking with sustainability. He thrives on creating smart, efficient solutions that balance growth, profitability, and environmental responsibility - always with the goal of delivering real value and making a meaningful impact.

‘I was very impressed by the application and onboarding process: professional, transparent and appreciative’

“I try to make our network efficient – more customers, more crates, but with fewer emissions. It's about smart solutions that combine growth and sustainability. And yes – even small steps count. Moving to our new office in Rothenburg, optimising the energy balance of our depots and washing centres, etc. may not be game changers for the company – but it shows that change is not just something we write about in strategy papers, but something we put into practice. In addition, I am working on setting up our purchasing system in such a way that we also take our suppliers' sustainability ambitions into account. Ultimately, it's always about being economically successful and operating from a position of strength. This triple focus on resource conservation, growth and profitability is what drives me.”

And where do you see your personal influence on the future of vPOOL and the Faber Group?

“Enormous! The group is growing – and with it the demands for digitalisation and efficiency. I see a huge learning curve here, especially in the area of data-driven controlling and IoT. We need to become faster, more automated and more forward-looking. This is not only exciting, but also a real opportunity to grow personally and actively shape the company. I look forward to embarking on this journey together with vPOOL and the Faber Group.”

What development opportunities does Faber Group offer you?

“Within vPOOL, I work closely with the sales team, HR, IT, Legal and, of course, management. In addition, I am in regular contact with my finance colleagues at Faber Group – a real asset, because they have a wealth of expertise. Although we are an international company, it feels like a family business. The collaboration is open, trusting and on an eye-to-eye level – it's fun and brings real added value.”

What is the collaboration with other teams and countries like?

‘It’s about smart solutions that combine growth and sustainability. And yes – even small steps count’

“I am responsible for sustainability reporting – but for me, that also means making recommendations for action. One major lever is the purchase of crates: if we avoid buying new crates, we save a huge amount of CO₂. I work with the team to minimise losses – through better coordination with customers or fewer defective crates in depots. Especially with pallets, which cause high emissions, it is crucial to purchase as few new ones as possible. Sustainability criteria are also increasingly being taken into account when selecting suppliers.”

And how do you support the Faber Group's sustainability goals?

“I help to maintain the balance between growth and profitability. We want to win new customers, but not at any price. I develop pricing models that are attractive and economical and, ideally, aligned with our short- and long-term goals.

This also involves keeping processes lean. Andreas Lenz, CEO of vPOOL, formulated it perfectly: “The Head of Finance should push sales.” And that's exactly what I do – with figures, ideas and clear boundaries.”

How do you contribute to creating value for our customers?

‘ I help to maintain the balance between growth and profitability’

“The combination of analytical work and strategic influence. I can shape, contribute ideas and participate in decisions – and all this in an environment that is open to new ideas. Working closely with the sales team is particularly motivating. I want to use my knowledge and skills to create real added value for my colleagues so that they in turn can do their jobs to the best of their ability. It's not about critical controlling, but about achieving the best results for vPOOL.”

What do you like most about your job?

“I am Head of Finance & Controlling – in other words, I am responsible for ensuring that the finance department runs smoothly and that reporting is reliable, transparent and as digital as possible. But figures only tell half the story. I actively support the business, e.g. through pricing, purchasing optimisation and risk management. I see myself as a driving force who prepares decisions with figures, data and facts and provides strategic support to the company. And, of course, I am a sparring partner for our CEO Andreas Lenz in day-to-day business.”

What are your main responsibilities at vPOOL?

“I became aware of vPOOL through a personal recommendation – which was a strong sign for me. When someone from your private circle recommends a company so convincingly, it shows a lot of trust. That made me curious. I have particularly positive memories of the application and onboarding process: professional, transparent and appreciative – I was very impressed. I've been with vPOOL since September 2024 and can say that my start has been a complete success.

What ultimately convinced me was the special period vPOOL is currently in: between established business and ambitious growth targets. This combination of stability and creative freedom appealed to me. The logistics industry was new territory for me – and I wanted to develop myself further. Sustainability also plays a major role for me. I have two young sons – and if I can contribute to a future worth living through my work, that motivates me enormously.”
